Built at the end of the 18th century, it is the historic heart of the city and the main center of activity with the port. Surrounded by a Vauban-style wall, the Medina is protected by fortifications where the European style blends harmoniously with the Arab-Muslim style. The Sqala de la Kasbah is an example accessible and open to the public of these fortifications where the walls are still under attack from the ocean. Inside, the maze of alleys divides the districts and the various souks. Fairly organized despite everything, the souk offers all types of products. Clothing rubs shoulders with spices, necklaces, bracelets and other items follow olives and other fruits and vegetables. There are many restaurants where the fresh fish caught in the morning is cooked for lunch or dinner. Many other typical dishes are also offered and it is good to stop on a terrace, in the refreshing shade of the trees. The Medina was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001.
This exceptional riad, a former Jewish house, is located at the entrance to the Medina. It was rebuilt in 2006 on reinforced concrete bases, with double-partition party walls and renovated in the spirit and traditional methods. Its floor area is 103 m².
Built on a ground floor and three floors, it has openings on two facades and is composed as follows:
Ground floor: two stores, with two entrances from the derb, joined together in a large room with facing stone arcades and cement tiles on the floor.
First floor with overhang: a magnificent bright and tree-lined patio with a central fountain leads to a dining room with refined decoration, a living room with fireplace, a library area, a fitted kitchen, a scullery and a suite with bathroom.
Second floor: large passageways distribute 3 beautiful bedrooms in refined and elegant tones. Each bedroom has a dressing room or closet and a bathroom with WC. On the landing, there is also a laundry room with storage.
Third floor: a private open-space apartment houses an American kitchen opening onto a living room with fireplace. A master suite with fireplace, dressing room and bathroom completes this private area. The fully glazed space is bathed in light. It is open to the central patio with a sliding and automated dome, and a south and west facing terrace.
On the adjoining terrace is a relaxation area with comfortable benches and a dining area is a real open-air living space.
On the upper terrace, accessible by a wooden staircase, the view is breathtaking over the roofs of the Medina, the parking lot of Bab Marrakech and the craft center, the port and the ocean as well as the Borj. It is on this space that the two solar water heaters of 300 liters are located.
The delicacy of the decoration and the materials chosen such as tadelakt, cement tiles, facing stone, bejmat make this place a refined and cozy cocoon. The building is in perfect condition for the structural part and no work is to be expected.
The riad is connected to the city's water network and has a reserve of 5,000 litres.
